Penny Rug Fabrics
Penny Rugs are normally made from wool scraps of fabrics. Recycle old wool coats and clothing into the pennies or purchase wool from shops selling wool. It is called wool felt, but wool of any quality will work just fine. The original penny rugs were papas old pants when they wore out, so recycling your old wool clothing just makes it more authentic.*
A good place to purchase large quantities cheap is by purchasing coats or skirts at a thrift store. Ebay is another excellent source to find just the right Penny Rug Fabric. You are going to find wool felt squares and even on occasion the round pennies are ready to use
We are seeing more and more people making the rugs by attaching two pennies onto a base, which has the penny scalloped edges. There should be a base and three pennies stacked in three sizes for authenticity.
